Full job description
Develop and implement planting schedules, soil management plans, and seasonal garden strategies. Supervise and train junior gardening staff (if applicable); coordinate with household staff and estate manager. Monitor and maintain garden tools, machinery, and equipment in good working order.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the design, care, and continuous improvement of ornamental, kitchen, and seasonal gardens.
- Perform and manage daily horticultural tasks, including planting, pruning, weeding, lawn care, pest control, composting, and irrigation.
- Develop and implement planting schedules, soil management plans, and seasonal garden strategies.
- Supervise and train junior gardening staff (if applicable); coordinate with household staff and estate manager.
- Monitor and maintain garden tools, machinery, and equipment in good working order.
- Ensure environmentally sustainable and organic gardening practices wherever possible.
- Work with external landscape designers, arborists, and contractors as needed.
- Prepare the grounds for events and seasonal changes; maintain high visual standards year-round.
- Maintain garden logs, planting records, and inventory of supplies.
Requirements:
- Minimum 3 years of hands-on gardening experience, preferably in a private estate or high-end landscape setting.
- Formal horticultural training or certification strongly preferred.
- Deep knowledge of plants, trees, shrubs, perennials, and kitchen garden crops.
- Proficient in managing garden machinery and irrigation systems.
- Strong organizational and time management skills; ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- A creative eye and a passion for high-quality garden presentation.
- Discreet, professional, and respectful of private household settings.
- Valid driver’s license; background check required.
